Marinated flank steak recipe
Flank steak is an affordable cut of beef that is quite good. This recipe can be prepared under a broiler or the steak can be put on the grill. The cooking times over a grill might be a minute or two shorter than the broiler. The directions here should produce a medium rare steak. Increase the cooking times by one or two minutes for a well done steak.
Please note that the meat will need to soak in the marinade for about an hour. You can prepare other dishes for the meal while the meat is marinating.
Recipe ingredients:
2 flank steaks, totally about 3-1/2 pounds
1/2 cup low-salt soy sauce
1/2 cup rice vinegar
1/3 cup honey
2 teaspoons pepper
3 Tablespoons minced fresh ginger
Trim off any fat that might be on the steaks. In a small bowl mix all the other ingredients. Place the steaks in a large sealable plastic bag and pour the marinade in with the meat. Press air bubbles out of the bag as you seal it so that the marinade is pressed tightly against the meat. Allow the bag of meat to marinate at room temperature for 1 hour, turning the bag every 15 minutes to distribute the marinade over the beef.
After the marinating is complete, heat your broiler or have your grill ready. Take the flank steaks out of the marinade and put them on a broiler pan. Broil them about 2 to 3 inches from the heating element. Broil the steaks 6 minutes on each side. If you are using a grill you might only need to grill them for 5 minutes on each side.
When the meat is cooked, slice across the grain into 1/4-inch thick slices and serve immediately.
