Pecan pie recipe
Known as a Southern classic, pecan pie has appeal everywhere. The rich smooth texture of pecans coupled with an unapologetic amount of sweetness makes for a wonderful dessert. Pecan pie is actually not very difficult to make. The filling has a sweet custard style base with pecan halves added to it. The recipe below includes a couple possible variations with which you can experiment.
Recipe ingredients:
1 9-inch single pie pastry
3 eggs
1 cup corn syrup (or use maple syrup)
2/3 cup sugar
1/3 cup butter, melted
1 teaspoon vanilla
1-1/2 cups pecan halves
Prepare a single 9-inch pie pastry and set aside, unbaked. To make the filling, beat the eggs and then stir in the corn syrup or maple syrup, sugar, melted butter, and vanilla. Next gently stir in the pecan halves.
Heat your oven to 350 degrees F and pour the pecan filling into the pie pastry. Carefully wrap strips of aluminum foil around the edges of the pie crust to prevent burning. Put the pie in the heated oven and bake for 25 minutes. Next remove the foil from the pie crust and continue to bake for another 20 to 25 minutes until a knife inserted in center of pie comes out clean. Cool the pie on the rack before serving. Make sure to store leftovers in the refrigerator because the custard should not sit out at room temperature.
Potentially tasty variations for this pecan pie recipe can be made by substituting different kinds of nuts in the filling, like peanuts, cashews, or macadamia nuts.
