Sloppy Joes recipe
Next time that pound of ground beef is staring you in the face, and you are feeling uninspired about dinner, cook up some sloppy Joes. This is a quick recipe.
This sloppy Joes recipe takes some of the slop out of this affordable dinner. The couple tablespoons of rolled oats act as a bit of a binding agent to keep the sloppy Joes in the bun.
Recipe ingredients:
1 pound ground beef or ground turkey
1/2 cup chopped onion
1/2 cup chopped green pepper
1 8-ounce can tomatoes
2 Tablespoons quick-cooking rolled oats
1-1/2 teaspoons chili powder
2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
1/2 teaspoon garlic salt
Dash of hot pepper sauce
1/4 cup water
6 toasted hamburger buns
Brown the ground meat in a skillet along with the chopped onion and green pepper. Drain the fat and then stir in the tomatoes along with their juices. Cut or mash up the tomato chunks. Add the oats, chili powder, Worcestershire sauce, garlic salt, hot pepper sauce, and water. Bring to a boil and then lower the heat so that it simmers for 5 or 10 minutes. Cook until it is thick enough to suit you. Serve on the hamburger buns.
