Yellow cake recipe

This yellow cake recipe will easily become an old standby in your kitchen. Its simplicity will be your savior whenever you need dessert and have absolutely nothing fancy to work with around the house. All the ingredients of this recipe are generally in your kitchen at all times. You can use this cake recipe to make a layer cake, a bundt cake, a rectangular cake, or cupcakes.

Recipe ingredients:

3 cups all purpose flour

2 cups sugar

1 Tablespoon baking powder

1-1/2 cups milk

1/2 cup butter, softened

1-1/2 teaspoons vanilla

2 eggs

Grease and then dust with flour the pan or pans in which you will be baking the cake. Then in a large bowl add the flour, sugar, and baking powder. Stir them lightly together to distribute. Then with an electric mixer beat in milk, butter, and vanilla. Beat on high speed for 2 minutes and then add the eggs and beat for another 2 minutes. Pour the cake batter into your pan and bake in a 375 degree F oven. 9-inch round pans need 25 to 30 minutes. The bundt pan needs about 45 minutes. A 13 x 9 pan will need 35 to 40 minutes. Cupcakes need 20 to 25 minutes. Cake is done when a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Try not to overbake.

A buttercream or chocolate frosting goes well with this yellow cake. Or a lemon or orange glaze would work nicely too. It is a versatile cake that will let you be creative with what you have on hand.
